About Merissa...

My proud heritage as a Muscogee Creek Native has made me passionate to learn about and work towards healing the trauma that extends through multiple generations in the Indigenous community, known as intergenerational trauma. I completed my practicum with the Denver Indian Family Resource Center (DIFRC). My focus at DIFRC was around victims of domestic violence, families, and adolescents. My internship was at Jefferson Center for Mental Health where I worked as a school-based therapist, serving at-risk high school students, many of which were immigrants or first generation in the US. Throughout my work with adolescents and young adults, anxiety, depression, and sexuality were common themes. As a member of the LGBTQ community, awareness around the multitude of issues we face are of great concern to me, especially in the political climate of today. Through spiritual/transpersonal approaches, combined with art, as well as strengths-based and solution-focused therapy, I work with clients to curtail interventions and support that are both culturally sensitive and compassionate.

I received my MA in Clinical Mental Health: Transpersonal Art Therapy from Naropa Unversity. I am a Registered Psychotherapist with DORA and an LPCC.
