Play Ideas

Auditory

  • Follow the leader with rhythm sticks-make a beat that your child can follow then switch + follow your child’s beats
  • Drumming circles with various pots + pans
  • Make your own rattles/rain sticks (empty toilet paper roll with masking tape + rice/beans-add in tactile experience + have them hand paint the roll themselves)
  • Talk to each other through toilet paper roll-use soft, medium, loud voices
  • Singing/stomping around the house-loud medium soft (eg. to twinkle twinkle)
  • Bubble wrap-pop, stomp on

Visual

  • Funnels, different size cups with different colored water, make tornadoes
  • Make play volcanoes (baking soda mix with vinegar and food coloring use Dixie cups)
  • Glitter projects (glitter glue)
  • Hide a light up disco ball/flashlights around the house and have kids find them
  • Flashlights-use cellophane to change the color
  • Fill water balloons together and throw into different colored buckets outside
  • Bubble blower hold it up high/down/low

Touch

  • Paint with warm spaghetti or fall leaves
  • Use shaving cream in a bucket outside to step/play in with various colors
  • Draw on carpet squares with chalk + erase it with your feet
  • Footpaint outside on warm day
  • Fill bucket of lotion/shaving cream + hide things inside it to find

Smell

  • Use little plastic bottles, cotton balls
  • Alerting scents-basil, garlic, oregano, lemon, orange, mint, onion, vinegar, chocolate, coffee, dirt
  • Calming scents-chamomile, almond extract, apple, cinnamon, scented markers, soap, lavender, banana, pine needles
